Baby bonding takes root in Rwanda

On our latest trip to Africa, we found flourishing baby bonding groups in and around Kisoro, south west Uganda. We also established groups in Byumba diocese, northern Rwanda.

The group photo shows mothers from the teaching session in Bisika parish.

Isobel and Camilla found that the established baby bonding groups are thriving under the care of the local leaders, with Venaida and Jackline visiting far more than we had thought.  Jackline uses her role as head of the Mothers' Union to promote baby bonding where ever she goes.  Isobel and Camilla taught 463 mothers in Uganda with an additional 51 local leaders from 19 groups attending their leaders' day.  At the leaders' day they discussed marriage and conflict resolution as requested, although much of the discusssion was taken over by the locals so we don't know exactly what was said!

In Rwanda, where Lullaby Africa has never been before, they registered 968 mothers across four days (and more attended incognito). There were babies and toddlers galore, receiving wonderful attention from their mothers and carers.
Nearly 1,000 Rwandan mothers heard, for the first time, the impact their love, touch, voice and eye-contact can make on their baby's development. This gives the women knowledge they can share and their children a much better start in life, leading to the chance of a better life overall.
