Lullaby Africa goes to hospital

JOORTH’s new mothers learn all about baby bonding

As Lullaby Africa develops and empowers more local leaders, they bring their skills and imagination to take the charity much further than we could go on our own.

Take Catherine. Not only does she teach baby bonding to groups in churches and through her own hairdressing business, she has also given Lullaby Africa our first ever introduction to mothers in hospital.

Catherine presented our baby bonding and attachment teaching to contacts in the JOORTH, one of the largest hospitals in Kisumu. According to its website, “Jaramogi Oginga Odinga Teaching & Referral Hospital (JOOTRH) has been in existence for more than a century, having been established in the early 1900s to cater for the health needs of the workers at the then port town of Kisumu. Since then, it has grown to become the referral hospital serving County, Sub-County, and private hospitals in more than 10 counties in the Western Kenya Region with a population of more than 5 million people.”

That’s quite a catchment group for our teaching and shows how important it is for charities like ours to have a powerful local voice.

We are excited to report that Catherine has negotiated and secured an opportunity to visit JOORTH two days a week and engage patients and staff with baby bonding.

We are grateful for Catherine’s commitment to Lullaby Africa and her passion for ensuring that the benefits of baby bonding as passed onto as many mothers as she can. We also thank the hospital authorities for accepting Catherine and the Lullaby Africa teaching into their institution.

Keep hooked into our social media feeds for updates on what our fabulous local leaders are up to in Kisumu and other locations in Kenya and Uganda.

Catherine explains what she will be doing at the hospital.
